Marguerite Yourcenar (1903-1987) was born in Bruxelles and lived her childhood in France with his father who was french. She is considered one of the most important writer of the XX Century and she was the first woman who was admitted in the Académie française. Her most famous novels are Memoirs of Hadrian (1951) and The Abyss (1968)

    Marguerite Antoinette Jeanne Marie Ghislaine Cleenewerck de Crayencour was born on the 8th of June in 1903 in Bruxelles. Her father, Monsieur Michel Cleenewerck de Crayencour, was a rich landowner from France who was interested in culture and literature; her mother Ferdinande (Fernande) de Cartier de Marchienne was a belgium noblewoman who died after the birth of Marguerite. The novel Archives du Nord written by Marguerite in 1977 describes all the generations of her family since her mother’s death.
